Kinowelt taps ‘Drum’

World Brief

Local distrib Kinowelt Filmverleih has picked up German rights to “Drum” from South African helmer Zola Maseko.

The U.S.-South African-German co-production opens this year’s Munich Film Festival on June 25.

Set in 1950s South Africa, pic stars Taye Diggs as real-life journo Henry Nxumalo, who went from being a sportswriter to an anti-apartheid crusader.

German investment fund VIP Medienfonds partially bankrolled the film.

Kinowelt last month picked up rights to “Half Light,” “Tristan & Isolde,” “Ice Harvest” and “Dreamer.”
