Jussi goes to ‘Dog’

Lumberjack drama sweeps Finnish awards

HELSINKI — The story of a war veteran finding his dignity in hard work among lumberjacks dominated the Finnish Jussi awards Sunday night. “Dog Nail Clipper” (Koirankynnen leikkaaja) earned trophies for Markku Polonen (directing, script), Kari Sohlberg (cinematography), actor (Peter Franzen) and producer (Kari Sara). Actress award went to Outi Maenpaa for her performance as an alcoholic single mom in Janne Kuusi’s comedy “Kukkia ja sidontaa” (Flowers and Binding).

Pirjo Honkasalo drew documentary kudos for her “Melancholia,” which depicts children trained to be soldiers in both Russia and Chechnya.
