Jane main man for ‘Mutant’

Project has been in development for a decade

Producer Ed Pressman’s Pressman & Co. Films banner said Wednesday that it has signed “The Punisher” star Thomas Jane to topline its sci-fi/action epic “The Mutant Chronicles,” based on the role-playing board game of the same name.

Project is finally moving ahead after having been in development under Pressman for a decade. Voltage Pictures recently signed on as pic’s foreign sales rep at the recent American Film Market.

Story is set in the 23rd century, in which four giant corporations have pillaged the last of the planet’s resources, causing a demonic, marauding army of underworld NecroMutants to wage war against humans for what remains. Jane will play a battle-weary Marine who leads a squad of soldiers against the alien hordes.

Simon Hunter will helm “Mutant” from a screenplay he penned with Ross Jameson.

Pressman, Stephan Belafonte, Pras Michel and Tim Dennison will produce, along with Alessandro Camon. Paradox Entertainment’s Peter Sederowski and Fred Malmberg will serve as exec producers.

Pic is skedded to go before the cameras in the spring. Casting is under way, and U.K. producer Tim Dennison has been working closely with Hunter on development.

Jane’s upcoming credits include John Madden’s “Killshot” for the Weinstein Co.

Pressman and Voltage recently announced their collaboration on two further projects, to be made under Pressman & Co.’s No Remorse genre label: a remake of “Sisters,” starring Asia Argento, and “The Hill,” to be directed by Adam Marcus.
