IFP/L.A. finds new name

Find to continue to produce Independent Spirit Awards, L.A. Film Fest

IFP/Los Angeles has announced that it will relaunch itself under the moniker of Film Independent, or Find.

Move, which removes the Independent Feature Project brand from the group, was anticipated (Daily Variety, March 28).

Find will continue to produce both the Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, which are wholly owned and operated by the organization.

Org will continue to work with IFP and other independent film organizations, with the current staff remaining in place and members receiving the same benefits.

Find plans to launch a new Web site. Its previous online home, Ifpwest.org, was offline as of Tuesday.

With 6,300 members, Find now represents the largest non-profit organization dedicated to supporting independent filmmakers. The IFP is now composed of five independently operated chapters in New York, Seattle, Minneapolis, Miami and Chicago. All told, the IFP reps about 3,300 members.

“IFP and its chapters around the country will continue to serve the independent film community both domestically and internationally as we have for the past 27 years,” IFP/New York chairman Ira Deutchman said. “We often find ourselves working jointly with organizations, both large and small, to execute various programs and events. That will not change; our commitment to foster independents will remain steadfast.”
