ROME — Ferzan Ozpetek’s social drama “Sacred Heart” and Giovanni Veronesi’s romantic comedy “Manual of Love” lead the race for Italy’s Davide di Donatello film awards, with 12 nominations each.

Reflecting a lackluster Italo cinema season with no standout pic, Paolo Sorrentino’s surreal Mafia drama “The Consequences of Love,” Davide Ferrario’s tribute to film buffery “After Midnight” and Gianni Amelio’s father-and-son drama “The Keys to the House” are also top contenders in the main categories.

“Manual of Love,” which weaves four tales of love and betrayal, is No. 2 at the Italo box office, having pulled in a sizable E12 million ($15.5 million) in four weeks, making it this year’s top local grosser.

Released in February, “Sacred Heart,” about a cold-hearted rich woman who turns into a Mother Teresa type, has made a more modest $3.9 million.

“Million Dollar Baby” and “Ray” are vying in the foreign-film category.

Date and venue for the winners’ gala are yet to be announced.
