Hamptons crowns ‘Cave’

'Dog' gets Golden at Fest

NEW YORK — Byambasuren Davaa’s “The Cave of the Yellow Dog” won the top prize, the Golden Starfish for feature, at the 13th annual Hamptons Film Festival Sunday.

Docudrama by Davaa, who co-helmed Oscar nominee “The Story of the Weeping Camel,” also won the fest’s Artemis Records original movie score award and Kodak kudos for cinematography.

Pic, which has been released in Germany and sold off in more than 20 territories, including Japan, the U.K., France, Mexico and Spain, follows a family living a nomadic life in the Mongolian grasslands.

Writer-helmer Stefan C. Schaefer won the Zicherman Family Foundation Award for screenwriter for “Confess,” which follows a hacker who returns to Gotham on a mission of revenge.

David Zeiger’s “Sir! No Sir!,” a look at Vietnam vets recalling their participation in the antiwar movement, took doc honors.

Career achievement in acting laurel went to thesp Miranda Richardson.

In a tie, audience award for narrative feature went to Marc Rothemund’s “Sophie Scholl: The Last Days” (Zeitgeist Films) and Ali Selim’s “Sweet Land.” Aud picked Zeitgeist Films’ “Ballets Russes” as its fave doc.

On the biz front, Skouras Films acquired U.S. theatrical rights to Doug Sadler’s “Swimmers.” Pic, produced by Melanie Backer, David W. Leitner and Michael Yanko, was picked up by the Sundance Channel for pay TV.

Fest ran Wednesday to Sunday.
