AMSTERDAM — Helmer Peter Greenaway’s latest film “Nighwatching,” about Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn will premiere at Cannes in 2006.
The pic’s release coincides with the 400th anniversary of the painter’s birth.
The film will focus on the period following the completion of Rembrandt’s best known work, “The Night Watch,” when the painter’s life took a turn for the worse. During that time, he lost three children, his wife and became bankrupt.
The English/French/German/Dutch coproduction is capped at Euro 6 million ($7.7 million) and will be headed up by Greenaway’s long time producer Kees Kasander.
