Fox’s ‘Cheaper’ chap

Shankman to helm 'Dozen' follow-up

Adam Shankman (“Bringing Down the House”) will helm 20th Century Fox’s sequel to “Cheaper by the Dozen,” reuniting with him with topliner Steve Martin.

Deal calls for Shankman to begin pre-production immediately and have the pic ready to lense by June.

Story is again by Sam Harper (“Just Married”) and follows the 12-kid family on vacation and in a head-to-head competition with a rival neighborhood family of eight kids.

In addition to Martin, Shankman said “Cheaper” co-stars Bonnie Hunt and Piper Perabo’s deals were being worked out but added that Hilary Duff’s return is still questionable.

Pic will be produced by original pic’s helmer Shawn Levy and producer Ben Myron and exec produced by Shankman and his producing partner Jennifer Gibgot.

Original, released in 2003, grossed $138 million.
