ROME — Giffoni Film Festival director Claudio Gubitosi has been appointed topper of Italy’s film promotion body FilmItalia.
Gubitosi, a veteran industryite with global contacts, replaces critic Giorgio Gosetti at the helm of the recently beefed up marketing entity, which aspires to be the equivalent to Gaul’s Unifrance.
He will make his debut as the country’s film industry ambassador and international advocate at next month’s Berlinale.
The Giffoni children’s film fest, founded by Gubitosi 35 years ago, recently launched an L.A. offshoot headed by Jon Voight. Gubitosi is expected to remain topper of the fest.
Gosetti exited FilmItalia, one of the arms of Italy’s Audiovisual Industry Promotion org, last year and became artistic director of Venice fest sidebar Venice Days.
