Gyllenhaal joins Ferrell on Mandate pic

Maggie Gyllenhaal will star opposite Will Ferrell in “Stranger Than Fiction,” a Marc Forster-directed comedy Zach Helm has scripted for Mandate Pictures. Shooting begins in April.

Ferrell plays an IRS auditor who finds himself the subject of narration that only he can hear. The voiceover begins to deeply affect everything from his work to his love life.

Lindsay Doran produces the film. It was put together by Nathan Kahane, the production president of Mandate, which was formerly known as Senator Intl. Mandate owns all distribution rights on the film.

Since her breakout role in “Secretary,” Gyllenhaal has worked steadily. She just wrapped “Trust the Man” with Julianne Moore and Ellen Barkin and starred in the indie “Shall Not Want.” Gyllenhaal also starred with Lisa Kudrow in the Don Roos-directed “Happy Endings,” which will play at Sundance before Lions Gate opens the comedy in the summer.
