Biz screenings to boost marketing efforts

LONDON — Marketing support body European Film Promotion will launch industry screenings in New York in November to introduce European films to North American buyers.

Four pics, to be announced at the end of September, will each get one screening on Nov. 14 and 15 at the Tribeca Film Center. The movies’ sales agents and helmers are likely to attend.

“The industry screenings in New York further reinforce EFP’s mandate to work more closely with the industry in designing its programs,” said EFP prexy Claudia Landsberger. “By stepping out of EFP’s traditional structure of working within established festivals, the organization is heading in a new direction in supporting the promotion and marketing of films worldwide.”

The screenings are modeled after a series run by German Films over the past 12 months.

“Our experience with private, invitation-only screenings in New York has been extremely positive,” said Christian Dorsch, EFP board member and managing director of German Films. “A number of films that we have presented have been picked up for North American distribution. It is well worth the effort to attempt the same with high-quality films from throughout Europe.”

EFP will continue the series, supported by European Union’s Media Program, with screenings tentatively scheduled for March, June and October.
