The awards will be presented Nov. 13.

“Election” fields 11 noms, including picture, director, actor and supporting actor.

Martial-arts blockbuster “Kung Fu Hustle” follows with 10 nods, including picture, director, visual effects and action choreography.

Taiwan’s local favorite, Hou Hsiao-hsien’s romantic triptych “Three Times,” picked up eight nods while compatriot “The Wayward Cloud,” Taiwan’s foreign-lingo Oscar contender, earned three.

Other multiple nominees include martial-arts epic “Seven Swords” with seven nods, mostly in technical categories; racing pic “Initial D” with six noms; and actioners “A World Without Thieves” and “Divergence,” each with four nods.

Best picture pits “Election” against “Kung Fu Hustle,” “The Wayward Cloud,” “Three Times” and “A World Without Thieves.”

Nine-member jury viewed 80 pics before narrowing the field down. According to jury head Chen Yao-chi, this year saw one of the tightest nomination races in recent memory and produced a mix of blockbuster productions and smaller arthouse pics in contention.
