Commission pledges funds for Film Sales Support initiative
LONDON — The European Commission is forking out E400,000 ($470,000) to promote Euro films at seven fests.
The EC has pledged the coin to European Film Promotion’s 2006 Film Sales Support initiative, which helps sales agents and producers market their pics at the Sundance, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, Toronto, Rio de Janeiro and Pusan film festivals.
Since 2004, EFP has supported 143 European films, of which 35% have been sold for local distribution after fest screenings.
More than 60 European sales agents have benefited from the incentive, which contributes toward the costs of a subtitled or dubbed print, publicity material, hiring a publicist and other activities, including getting hard-up Euro filmmakers to fests to tubthump their pics.
