‘Earthquakes’ felt at U

Universal gets a novel idea

Universal has tapped the scripting team of Elizabeth Kruger and Craig Shapiro to adapt Jennifer Weiner’s novel “Little Earthquakes.”

Universal optioned Weiner’s novel last year and set it up at U-based Double Feature with Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg producing. Jake Weiner, the author’s brother and manager, will exec produce along with JC Spink and Chris Bender.

“Earthquakes,” published last September by Atria Books, centers on a trio of pregnant women who meet in yoga class and become friends as they share the joys and pains of childbirth and motherhood. U senior VP Holly Bario is overseeing the project.

Kruger and Shapiro also have a pilot script, “Mean Moms,” in development at CBS through Brillstein-Grey/20th. Tom Lassally and Robyn Meisinger of Kustom Entertainment exec produce.

Fox will release an adaptation of Weiner’s first novel, “In Her Shoes,” directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Cameron Diaz, in April.
