MADRID — Spanish toon pic producer Dygra Films is ramping up production with three 3-D animated features, “The Spirit of the Forest,” “Holy Night!” and “The Golden Ass.”
Announcement comes as Dygra has tapped Tania Pinto Da Cunha, former co-head of international sales at Lolafilms, as its executive producer.
Both “Spirit” and “Night” will be presented at the EU-backed Cartoon Movie, one of Europe’s major animated pic marts, which kicks off today in Berlin.
Helmed by David Rubin and Juan Carlos Pena and skedded to bow in 2006, “Spirit” is a sequel to Dygra’s debut toon feature “The Living Forest,” which has notched up about 1 million admissions in Europe.
“Night,” a family comedy, is in development and aiming at a Christmas 2007 release.Dygra’s 2008 project “Ass” is a loose adaptation of the second-century comic novel by Lucius Apuleius about the culture shock suffered by the Roman conquerors and the original inhabitants of Spain.
