Horror redo will be rolled out by Rogue pictures

NEW YORK — Veteran musicvid helmer Dave Meyers will direct and Jake Wade Wall will pen Platinum Dunes and Focus Features’ upcoming redo of 1986 horror film “The Hitcher.”

Pic is slated to be rolled out through Focus’ genre label, Rogue Pictures.

Directed by Robert Harmon, first “Hitcher” starred C. Thomas Howell as a teen who picks up the hitchhiker from hell (Rutger Hauer), a serial killer who torments the youth by implicating him in each of his crimes.

Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing for Dunes, along with Charles Meeker and Alfred Haber.

Dunes has been on a roll with remakes, including horror hits “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “The Amityville Horror.”

Pic will mark the emergence to featuredom of one of the musicvid world’s top helmers. Last month, Meyers directed Julia Roberts in an upcoming clip for the Dave Matthews Band.

Scribe Wall has been on busy of late, with upcoming projects including the Simon West-helmed “When a Stranger Calls” for Screen Gems. He also recently sold off the horror spec “Amusement” to New Line for Mike Macari and Neal Edelstein to produce.

Rogue also is in development with Dunes on pics “The Horseman” and “The Surrogate.”
