HOLLYWOOD — Dream Entertainment has picked up foreign rights to Waterfront Prods.’ horror documentary “H.H. Holmes: America’s First Serial Killer.”
Directed by John Borowski, pic is the life story of the Chicago doctor who designed his own building with torture chambers, a crematorium and acid vats, renting rooms to and murdering victims visiting the 1893 World’s Fair. Pic includes reenactments in addition to interviews and period photography.
In 2003, Paramount Pictures acquired feature rights to Erik Larson’s nonfiction book about Holmes, “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America.” Pic is in development at C/W Prods.
Leonardo DiCaprio also announced plans to star in an unrelated Holmes picture, to be developed through his production company.
Dream senior VP of acquisitions and development Karen Roberts brought the film to the company.
