Walt Disney Pictures and Offspring Entertainment have bought spec script “Flight Risk” from scribe Kyle Long for $200,000 against $400,000.
Action comedy is about a hapless young man who’s hired by a wealthy father to escort his unusually rebellious 11-year-old son across state lines to a school for troubled kids.
Script was in play at several studios, but Offspring’s Jennifer Gibgot credited Disney’s Kristin Burr with acting quickly so Offspring could negotiate for it.
Offspring’s Adam Shankman and Gibgot will produce. Long’s managers, Alex Goldstone and Mikkel Bondesen, will be exec producers.
Offspring’s Matthew Mizel, who brought the spec to the studio, will be a co-producer.
Burr and Todd Murata will oversee the project for the studio.
Long has recently finished “Tommy’s Kitchen” for Michael Kuhn’s Qwerty Films; script is a feature adaptation of “Jamie’s Kitchen,” the Blighty reality show starring chef Jamie Oliver.
Offspring is in production on “Cheaper by the Dozen 2,” directed by Shankman.
