Robinson to direct CGI/live-action combo
Walt Disney Pictures is teaming with Hyde Park Entertainment and Frequency Entertainment on “Witches,” a Joel Wyman script that will be produced and directed by Angela Robinson.
“Witches” is a CGI-and-live action blend that is being eyed as a potential Halloween release. It concerns a young girl’s discovery that she is a descendant from a line of witches. She must reconcile her destiny and its impact on a budding romance.
Pic is being produced by Hyde Park chairman Ashok Amritraj, prexy Jon Jashni, Patrick Aiello and Wyman. Aiello brought in the project under his first-look deal with Hyde Park. Robinson’s company Pink Thunder is based at Disney and her producing partner Lisa Stewart will be exec producer. Disney’s Nina Jacobson and Karen Glass will supervise along with Frequency’s Eric Mah.
Robinson most recently helmed Disney’s “Herbie: Fully Loaded.”
Wyman, best known for scripting “The Mexican,” wrote “Witches” on spec. He also wrote the Columbia Pictures drama “RPM” and will make his directing debut on his script “Wallflower” for Hyde Park.
Hyde Park just released “Shopgirl” through Disney and “Dreamer” through DreamWorks, and will start production in January on the pics “Premonition” and “Monkeyface.”
