Tribute, screening to be held Nov. 11
This year’s AFI Fest has tapped Johnny Depp to receive its tribute, to be followed by the world preem of Depp starrer “The Libertine,” directed by Laurence Dumore.
The Weinstein Co. pic also stars Samantha Morton and John Malkovich.
Tribute and screening will be held Nov. 11 at the ArcLight. Depp will sit down with film critic Richard Schickel for a Q&A. Event also will include a clip montage from Depp’s films.
“He has made interesting, risky choices in his career and has evolved into one of the most absorbing actors of our time,” said AFI Fest director Christian Gaines.
As part of the tribute, AFI Fest will screen four other Depp films — Jim Jarmusch’s “Dead Man,” Tim Burton’s “Edward Scissorhands,” Terry Gilliam’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and Lasse Hallstrom’s “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” — during the 10-day event, which runs Nov. 3-13.
