MADRID — Indie distrib Vitagraph and the Landmark Theater Corp. cinema circuit have teamed to take North American rights to Alex de la Iglesia’s satirical comedy “Crimen ferpecto” (Ferpect Crime) from Spanish sales and distribution house Sogepaq.
The deal guarantees a minimum, 10-city release for “Ferpect.”
Pic is produced by De la Iglesia’s banner, Panico Films, Sogecable film production arm Sogecine and Italy’s Planet Pictures.
Toplining Guillermo Toledo (“The Other Side of the Bed”) and Monica Cervera (“Stones”), “Ferpect” turns on an immoral department store salesman who gets his comeuppance when he’s blackmailed into marriage by a dumpy sales assistant.
Marking De la Iglesia’s return to his hallmark black farce and Hitchcock pastiche, “Ferpect” has chalked up healthy home B.O. of E4.3 million ($5.6 million) and steady international sales. These include France (La Fabrique de Films), Germany (Arsenal), South Korea (Media Soso) and nearly all Latin America.
