Warbeck, Li, 'Be With Me' also take home prizes

GHENT – Tommy Lee Jones’ directing debut “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada” won the Grand Prize at the Flanders Film Festival Saturday in Ghent, Belgium.

Dominique Deruddere, member of the International Jury announced the list of prize winners. The ceremony was followed by the premiere of Deruddere’s film “The Wedding Party” (De Bloedbruiloft).

In addition to Deruddere, international jury members were Arthur Lappin, Lissy Belaiche, Brenda Blethyn, Jose Luis Castineira de Dios and Carine Tardieu.

Best film prize includes 25,000 euros to support the release of the movie in Flanders and Brussels.

The Georges Delerue Prize for music was awarded to Stephen Warbeck for the music of John Madden’s “Proof.” Prize includes 15,000 euros for distribution support. The Sabam Prize for Best Screenplay (12,500 euros distribution award) went to Eric Khoo and Wong Kim Hoh for the screenplay of “Be with Me,” by Singaporean filmmaker Khoo.

Li Yu, the director of the Chinese film “Dam Street,” received the Robert Wise Prize for director (5,000 euros distribution award).
