'Ray' producer Benjamin moves to BEG

Stuart Benjamin, one of the quartet of producers on best picture Oscar nominee “Ray,” has been tapped senior exec VP at Baldwin Entertainment Group.

BEG principals Howard and Karen Baldwin made the announcement Tuesday after the six Oscar noms were announced for “Ray,” which Benjamin shepherded for 15 years along with director Taylor Hackford. The Baldwins and Hackford are also producers on “Ray.”

Benjamin’s other producer credits include “Everybody’s All American,” “Against All Odds” and “White Nights.”

Benjamin broke into show business in 1971 when he and Hackford formed New Visions Inc., which produced documentaries, docudramas and music concerts. Benjamin and Hackford formed New Visions Pictures in 1988; in 1991, he began his partnership with Alise Benjamin in TV shingle Benjamin Prods.

Nine years later, Benjamin was involved in the formation of Crusader Entertainment, now Bristol Bay Prods., financed by Philip Anschutz and Howard Baldwin.

He’s also managing partner of Capstone Entertainment, which produces specialized nontheatrical projects, and was one of the exec producers of the Ray Charles Tribute Concert last October.
