Aussie film org gears up for kudos

Pearce pic receives nine noms

Gritty Guy Pearce-toplined Western “The Proposition,” Sony’s first Australian acquisition in six years, topped the upstart IF (Inside Film) Awards nomination list announced in Sydney.

Pic received nine noms, including pic, helmer for Brit John Hillcoat, lead actor for Pearce and actress for Emily Watson.

Other contenders are Icon’s “Little Fish,” which stars Cate Blanchett as a recovering heroin addict, and Dendy’s “Look Both Ways,” in which William McInnes portrays a photographer with terminal cancer. Roadshow’s frightener “Wolf Creek” earned four noms.

IF Awards, known as the people’s choice awards, will be broadcast live by multilanguagepubcaster SBS on Sunday from an auditorium at Sydney’s Luna Park.
