Designers will be feted at 10th annual awards ceremony
The Art Directors Guild has tapped production designers John Box, Hans Dreier, Cedric Gibbons, Jan Scott and Alexander Trauner for induction into its Hall of Fame.The quintet will be honored at the guild’s 10th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards ceremonies Feb. 11at the Beverly Hilton. Kudos, which are bestowed only posthumously, have previously gone to William Buckland, Richard Day, John DeCuir Sr., Anton Grot, Boris Leven, William Cameron Menzies and Van Nest Polglase. Box won Academy Awards for “Oliver!,” “Nicholas and Alexandra,” “Dr. Zhivago” and “Lawrence of Arabia.” Dreier won Oscars for “Frenchman’s Creek,” “Samson and Delilah” and “Sunset Boulevard” and was nominated for 15 other films. Gibbons won 11 Academy Awards, starting with “The Bridge of San Luis Rey” in 1929 and received a record 37 nominations. Scott won 11 Primetime Emmy Awards and received a record 30 noms. Trauner won an Oscar for “The Apartment” and was nommed for “The Man Who Would Be King.”
