Acad sets doc deadline

All potential pics need to be submitted by Sept. 1

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has set Sept. 1 as the deadline to submit documentaries for consideration in its 78th annual awards.

A screening committee comprising docmakers will select the nominees in both the short subject and feature-length categories.

“Born Into Brothels” and “Mighty Times: The Children’s March” won awards for documentary feature and docu short, respectively, earlier this year.

Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 31.
