On the “Desk Set” set, Katharine Hepburn explained the reason why she doesn’t talk to the press: “I’ve got no news to tell” — and she tells it most vehemently! … But guess who Hepburn’s a fan of — Marilyn Monroe! … Same set, Spencer Tracy says he could accept another pic following “Desk,” but doesn’t want to take any chances on something happening to foul up the June re-start of “Old Man and the Sea.” Ernest Hemingway has a Jan. 1958 stop date on the film, says Tracy, who is frankly surprised that Warners is continuing with the project — $2.4 million is already sunk in what he says is 10 minutes of usable film … The Photoplay Awards this year were the biggest, most glamorous and jam-packed the BevHills Hotel’s Crystal Room … Ernest Borgnine emceed and recited Shakespeare — like Joe Frisco … Buddy Adler, in accepting his award, thanked Zanuck, Skouras, Lew Schreiber — and Harry Cohn. Cohn, noting that Adler was chatting to dais-mate Kim Novak all evening, quipped, “I wish him a lot of luck getting her for a film” … Elvis Presley, one of the winners, didn’t show, but Jayne Mansfield did — everything!”…If Ed Murrow interviews Louella Parsons, would it be “Person-to-Parsons”?
