COLOGNE — German pubcaster ZDF has paid a reported $100 million for a package of Hollywood pics from Munich-based film rights trader Herbert Kloiber.
The package includes “Troy,” both “Tomb Raider” pics and the second and third parts of the “Harry Potter” franchise, plus TV series “Veronica Mars.”
ZDF would not comment on the cost, but a spokesman said tighter budgets in Germany meant ZDF’s scouts increasingly looked outside of Hollywood for cheaper product in Australia and Canada. “A larger package deal such as this one is the exception these days,” he said.
Most noticeably, ZDF has introduced a slot for British TV thrillers.
