Witherspoon, Phoenix starrer to preem at fest
TORONTO — “Walk the Line,” the Johnny Cash biopic starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, which runs Sept. 8-17.
Pic, which chronicles the early years of the man in black and wife June Carter, is directed by James Mangold (“Kate & Leopold,” “Girl, Interrupted”).
Previously announced, Deepa Mehta’s “Water,” the third part of her elemental trilogy, will open the fest. Other preems include Anand Tucker’s “Shopgirl,” Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain” and Keira Knightley starrer “Pride & Prejudice,” the first English-language movie version of the Jane Austen classic in 65 years, directed by Joe Wright.
