Helmers Pang brothers, To to also screen projects at Cannes
HONG KONG — Universe Films comes to Cannes with a hit pic for helmer Benny Chan as well as new pics from Chan, the Pang brothers and Johnnie To.
Chan’s actioner “Divergence,” screening twice in Cannes, has already grossed more than $2.5 million in Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Malaysia in its first week of release.
Helmer Chan plans to announce his next project, which is likely to be another action movie, at the fest.
The Pang brothers’ “Re-cycle” and To’s “The Sparrow” will screen promo reels.
“Re-cycle,” a horror pic about the blurring of fiction and reality, is in post production with a December release date. Pic is a co-production between Universe Entertainment and Thailand’s Matching Group.
“The Sparrow,” still shooting in Hong Kong, is about betrayal in the world of pickpockets.
Danny Pang will break away from his co-directing brother to make “Death of Forest” in January. In Cannes, Universe will talk to possible investors and co-producers for the mystery pic.
