Televisa Cine has acquired Mexican box office hit “Matando Cabos” for the U.S., with international rights going to Televisa’s sales arm, Lightning Entertainment.
Televisa previously released “A Day Without a Mexican,” which grossed $4 million in the States, while Lightning handled “Nicotina.”
Televisa will bow “Matando Cabos,” directed by Alejandro Lozano, in June.
Televisa Cine opened the pic in Mexico last July. It grossed $7 million and went on to screen at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Produced by Billy and Fernando Rovzar Diez-Barroso’s Lemon Films, the dark comedy follows teens who attempt to kidnap one of the most powerful men in Mexico but discover they grabbed the wrong man. Alvaro Bernat, Kristoff Razcinsky and Lozano penned the script.
