Sony pic fills a ‘Vacancy’

Lieberman to produce horror pic

Hal Lieberman is producing the horror-suspense pic “Vacancy,” written by Mark L. Smith, for Screen Gems.

Aim is to begin production in late summer.

Pic is about a young, married couple who, while stranded at a desolate motel, discover hidden video cameras in their room. They soon realize that unless they escape, they’ll be the next victims of a snuff film.

“Vacancy” will be Lieberman’s first pic at Sony under his new production deal at the studio, inked last fall.

Brian Paschal of the Hal Lieberman Company brought the project in.

Formerly head of production at Universal, Lieberman was a producer on Warner Bros.’ “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” and Disney’s “Around the World in 80 Days.”
