Sony fond of its Bond

Studio to announce Craig as sixth 007

Sony Pictures Entertainment is expected to unveil Daniel Craig as the new James Bond today at a news conference aboard the HMS President, which is moored on the Thames near London’s Tower Bridge.

Announcement will end a week of intense speculation in the British press about the identity of the sixth actor to play 007.

Craig’s star has been on the rise since last year, when he won plaudits for his portrayal of a cerebral gangster in Matthew Vaughn’s “Layer Cake.”

Brit and Irish thesps including Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law and Colin Farrell had been put forward as contenders to play Bond in “Casino Royale,” which focuses on the agent’s formative years.

Pic goes into production in January under the helm of Martin Campbell.
