Roodt preps rugby movie

Moss, Mandoza cast as teammates

JOHANNESBURG — South African helmer Darrell James Roodt is in pre-production on rugby pic “Number 10,” which will use a local cast and crew.

His AIDS saga “Yesterday,” the first indigenous Zulu-language feature, was South Africa’s most recent foreign-lingo Oscar submission.

Colin Moss, star of SABC3’s daily soap “Isidingo,” will play a rugby player trying to secure a place on the national team. Rap musician Mandoza has been cast as a teammate; he also will contribute to the soundtrack.

Johannesburg-based Gold Studios is producing the pic, from a script by Elsabe Roux, a scribe on paycaster M-Net’s soap “Egoli.”

Producer Anton Ernst said pic has secured a South African release for November through distrib-exhib Ster-Kinekor.
