Renaissance sells ‘Candy’

Pre-sales include Spain, Benelux, Australia

LONDON — Renaissance Film has announced a handful of pre-sales for its Heath Ledger movie “Candy,” which started shooting Thursday in Australia.

The $6 million pic, co-starring Geoffrey Rush, has been picked up by Lauren in Spain, A-Film in Benelux, Dendy in Australia, Smile in Scandinavia, LNK in Portugal, Odeon in Greece, Phars in the Middle East, Central Partnership in Russia and California Films in Brazil.

Director and co-writer Neil Armfield calls “Candy” a convention-defying romantic tragedy.

It’s produced by Margaret Fink and Emile Sherman, with financing from Australia’s FFC, the New South Wales Film & TV Office, Paradigm Hyde Films and Renaissance.
