Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman have partnered with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment to produce “The Great Buck Howard.”

Pic stars Colin Hanks opposite Kevin Kline, with Tom Hanks appearing as Colin’s on-screen father.

“Buck Howard” follows the foibles of a luckless magician and his assistant as they struggle to re-invigorate his career. The project was written and will be directed by Sean McGinly.

Sidney Kimmel’s SKE will finance the feature along with Film & Entertainment VIP Medienfonds 2. Pre-production is scheduled to begin in June, with principal photography slated for September.

SKE’s Marina Grasic, Playtone’s Steven Shareshian and Marvin Acuna will executive produce along with Andreas Grosch, Andreas Schmid and Jan Korbelin.

Playtone is currently in production on Warner Bros. Pictures’ CGI feature “The Ant Bully,” HBO series “Big Love” and 3D-IMAX feature “Magnificent Desolation.”

SKE is in production on the Ed Harris project “Copying Beethoven” and is in post on “Neverwas,” “Alpha Dog” and “Trust the Man.”
