Pollen's book drew offers from several studios

Paramount has acquired film rights to Bella Pollen’s novel “Midnight Cactus,” setting up the romance with Par-based Michael London.

Story’s described as a romance set against the backdrop of immigration politics along the Arizona-Mexico border. Tale centers on an Englishwoman who becomes involved with a man who’s renovating an abandoned silver mine.

Pollen’s other novels include “Daydream Girl,” “B Movies,” Blue Love” and “Hunting Unicorns.”

London signed a first-look deal at Paramount last year after producing “Sideways.” He’s a producer on Fox’s upcoming ensemble comedy “The Family Stone” with Sarah Jessica Parker toplining and on “The Illusionist” starring Paul Giamatti and Edward Norton.

Par co-president of production Alli Shearmur and Pam Abdy are overseeing for the studio.
