The Palm Springs Short Film Fest & Market has named producer Kathleen McInnis director of the Sept. 20-26 event. With 350 films from more than 40 countries, the 11th edition is the largest event for shorts in North America.
McInnis was director of this year’s Slamdance Film Fest and also has worked with the Seattle Film Fest. She has produced short films and worked as a feature publicist.
Over the past 10 years, 46 of the short films nominated for Academy Awards have played at the meet, with six of the nominated films screened at last year’s fest.
Submissions are up 10% from last year, with a record 2,400 submissions for this year’s event. Fest says typically more than two thirds of shorts screened are acquired or find sales agents.
