Pair show faith in comicbook pic

Rosenberg teams with Hurd for 'Magdalena'

Platinum Studios chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg has teamed with Gale Anne Hurd and her Valhalla Motion Pictures to produce “Magdalena,” a faith-based feature based on a Top Cow comicbook. Kevin Taft will write the script.

Story concerns a young woman named Patience who discovers she is part of a lineage of female warriors descended from Mary Magdalene. She must save the world from supernatural evil.

“Magdalena” is “exactly the kind of project we love, a strong female lead character, a story with rich mythology and compelling characters,” said Hurd, who produced “Terminator” and “Aeon Flux.” “The religious overtone adds a new dimension to the adventure story.”

Project is the second for Rosenberg and Hurd, who are working together on another comic transformation, “Atlantis Rising.” Platinum Studios controls the largest independent library of comicbook characters and has an exclusive long-term relationship to exploit feature and TV rights for Top Cow comicbook product.

Top Cow Prods. CEO Marc Silvestri will exec produce; Matt Hawkins co-produces. Valhalla execs Gary Ventimiglia and Steve Emery will shepherd the pic along with Platinum Studios execs Aaron Severson and Jay Burns.
