New status for Stratus

Gordon, Yari split up

Mark Gordon is dissolving his partnership with Bob Yari in the Stratus Film Co.

Stratus will continue, with Gordon and Yari producing upcoming titles already underway such as “The Painted Veil” for Warner Independent Pictures and “Killing Pablo” for Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks.

Brad Jenkel, who serves as exec VP of production for Stratus, will be charged with the day-to-day operations and segue into an executive role in the Yari Film Group.

Prior to Stratus, Gordon spent five years as a partner in production and foreign sales shingle Mutual Film Group. That run ended in September 2000.

Stratus was unveiled in October 2002 as the first of Yari’s Hollywood interests. Yari is also a principal in Bull’s Eye Entertainment, El Camino Pictures and foreign sales arm Syndicate Films Intl.

Stratus has a three-year co-financing deal with Universal Pictures and Focus Features that expires next spring.

“Mark’s shift away from management is predicated on his desire to devote his time exclusively to producing, as opposed to the daily operation of another production entity,” said Yari. “We have had a wonderful alliance, and I look forward to continuing our working relationship with future success.”

Through Stratus, Gordon also produced Bruce Willis starrer “Hostage,” which Miramax Films bows March 11; “Prime” and “Winter Passing,” are slated for release through Focus; and “The Matador,” which Miramax plans to release later this year.

Separate from Stratus, Gordon maintains a first-look deal for features with Columbia Pictures. On the TV side, he has a first-look deal with Touchstone.

Current projects for the Mark Gordon Co. include ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” which airs March 27, the CBS pilot “Quanitco” directed by Richard Shepard (“The Matador”), “Warm Springs,” which airs on HBO April 30 and the untitled Casanova project starring Heath Ledger for director Lasse Hallström.

“I want to focus on pictures that I am producing — that is my passion,” Gordon said. “I have great regard for Bob and believe that he will be enormously successful in all his various enterprises.  I am very proud of the pictures we have made and look forward to working with Bob on the next group of pictures in the pipeline.”

Gordon’s production credits include “The Day After Tomorrow,” “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “Saving Private Ryan.”
