MPAA chieftain shares face time

ShoWest brief

LAS VEGAS — Altering the usual dynamic of Tuesday’s opening ceremony, ShoWest allowed Jeffrey Katzenberg to command as much stage time as MPAA topper Dan Glickman.

In recent years, speeches by former MPAA chief Jack Valenti and others assessing the state of the industry dominated the ceremony. Notable Hollywood figures have often been featured at the event but have not heavily promoted upcoming pics.

Trailers for upcoming DreamWorks pics “Red Eye” and “The Island” were unspooled, along with an entire scene from summer toon “Madagascar.”

Katzenberg also received a Platinum Award from Nielsen/EDI in recognition of the box office prowess of “Shrek 2.”
