Miami fest kicks off in March

The Miami Film Festival will unspool in March next year rather than in its usual late January/early February berth to avoid the crush among the Sundance, Rotterdam and Berlin fests.

Festival director Nicole Guillemet’s aim to up its industry quotient is behind the shift of the 23rd edition to March 3-12.

Under the direction of the former Sundancer for the past three years and under the auspices of Miami-Dade College for the past two, the festival has increased the number of screenings, introduced competitive sections and added a mini-market, Encuentros.
