MORELIA, Mexico — Mexican thesps Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal are developing an hour-long TV series plus a doc on the life of Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez via their shingle, Canana.
TV show, “Ruta 32,” will focus on a different Mexican city or town each episode.
Luna was unwilling to comment on the projects, as talks with interested parties continue. Pablo Cruz, who produced the Nigerian pic “Rage,” is running Canana’s operations.
Luna was at the Morelia Film Festival to announce Canana’s first project — a touring doc fest that will visit 15 Mexican cities that see little alternative programming.
In partnership with Mexico’s leading exhib Cinepolis and Morelia, tour will run from February to April.
Tour will screen such docs as “Toro negro” by Mexican helmers Pedro Gonzalez Rubio and Carlos Armella and Catherine Tambini’s “Farmingville.”
Luna’s first effort at production, “Solo dios sabe” — in which he also stars — is in post and already has distribution in Latin America with Disney’s Miravista.
