MADRID — The ninth Malaga Spanish Film Festival, the biggest showcase for Spanish pics, will move to March 17-25 next year.
Since its debut in 1998, the fest has progressively advanced its dates from May/early June to late April/early May.
Over recent years, films in competition at Malaga have opened in May-June to patchy results. The new dates are aimed at favoring “a better release spread for Official Section films,” according to a statement from the fest.
Malaga’s Spanish Market Screenings will unspool March 23-25 to coincide with the fest.
Malaga’s Euro and Latin American docu and pitching forum, Mercadoc, and the Spanish TV fiction and toon mart, TV Market, will maintain their regular dates, running April 26-29 next year.
