Lopez tackles U’s ‘World’

Burnstein, Schiff sign to write screenplay

Universal Pictures has decided to make George Lopez “The Richest Man in World.”

Studio has acquired the comedy pitch from scribes Jim Burnstein and Garrett Schiff as a starring vehicle for Lopez and set the project up at Universal-based Shady Acres and producers Tom Shadyac and Michael Bostick.

Story follows the poorest man in the world getting to walk in the shoes of the richest man in the world. Burnstein and Schiff have signed to write the screenplay.

Universal senior VP of production Holly Bario will oversee the project for the studio.

Lopez stars in the ABC comedy “George Lopez” and in Dimension’s “The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D,” opening Friday. Lopez, who’s been performing standup comedy for more than two decades, will appear Sunday at the U CityWalk’s Gibson Amphitheater in Hollywood.

Credits for Burnstein and Schiff include New Line’s “Head Case” and “Quarterback’s Tale.”
