Khan protests unspool

Grievances follow allegations that thesp threatened ex-girlfriend Rai

Screenings of thesp Salman Khan’s Friday release “Pyaar maine kyun kiya” (Why Did I Fall in Love?) were disrupted by right-wing Indian People’s Party workers in selective cities across India.

Theaters in Mumbai released the film under police protection.

Police protection around the Bollywood star’s house in Mumbai’s Bandra suburb also have been stepped up.

The protests follow allegations that Khan had threatened ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai (“Bride and Prejudice”) with “dire consequences” if she failed to attend specific events linked to the underworld.

Khan’s lawyer Dipesh Mehta has questioned the veracity of tapes linking the actor to the mob.

Khan is also slated to stand trial in connection with the death of one homeless person and injuries of four in a 2002 automobile incident.
