The lineup of movies for the eighth edition of “Variety Critics’ Choice: Europe Now,” held each year as part of the Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, is now complete.
The 10 pics are: “Hardcore” (dir. Dennis Iliadis, Greece), “Blue Collar White Christmas” (Max Kestner, Denmark), “A Little Piece of Heaven” (Peter Nikolaiev, Czech Rep.), “Ultranova” (Bouli Lammers, Belgium), “Measures To Better the World” (Joern Hintzer, Jakob Huefner, Germany), “Suburbs” (Vinko Moederndorfer, Slovenia), “New Town Original” (Jason Ford, U.K.), “Out of Body” (Vicente Penarrocha, Spain), “Silentium” (Wolfgang Murnberger, Austria), and “Kissed By Winter” (Sara Johnsen, Norway).
Films are selected from the 25 territories affiliated to European Film Promotion, which is again supporting the event. Each pic will be accompanied by its director or star.
“The VCC has become a prestigious sidebar in the summer fest calendar,” notes Variety‘s senior international film critic Derek Elley, who coordinates the selection. “There’s no shortage of fresh, entertaining movies by younger European directors, and this year seven of the 10 titles are by first-time talents.”
The 40th Karlovy Vary fest runs July 1-9.
