SINGAPORE — Australian director-cinematographer Geoff Burton (“Sirens”) is bringing the “Mr Midnight” series of bestselling kids’ books to the bigscreen.
Working title is “Mr Midnight the Movie: My Haunted Holiday,” with a screenplay by the books’ author, Jim Aitchison.
Joint producers are founder and chairman of the Singapore Intl. Film Festival Geoff Malone and media lawyer Samuel Seow.
The hunt is on for six children to play the young leads.
Shooting on the $1 million pic begins in Singapore in June for around six weeks. Pic’s slated for release this Christmas or Chinese New Year 2006.
Aitchison points out that the books are some of the few aimed at Asian kids.
“Mr Midnight” beats “Harry Potter” on the bestsellers list in Singapore, as well as selling in Malaysia, China and, soon, Thailand.
