Hof fest calls ‘Dogs’

World Brief

Costa-Gavras’ “Le couperet” (The Ax), Michael Caton-Jones’ “Shooting Dogs” and Werner Herzog’s “The Wild Blue Yonder” will be among pics at the Hof Intl. Film Festival, Oct. 26-30.

Often described as Germany’s answer to Telluride, Hof, in northern Bavaria, is one of the most important meeting points for the local industry, despite a growing international slant.

Among German pics screening are two documentaries about Hollywood: “Behind the Couch — Casting in Hollywood” from Berlin-based helmer Veit Helmer and Spiro Taraviras’ “Buzz,” about screenwriter A.I. “Buzz” Bezzerides.

North American titles unspooling at the fest also include Atom Egoyan’s “Where the Truth Lies” and James Toback’s “When Will I Be Loved.”

The 39th Hof fest will honor Costa-Gavras with a showcase of his work in addition to screening “Le couperet.”
