Scribe adapting the second in a series of five books
Walden Media has tapped scribe John Hodge to adapt “The Dark Is Rising” based on Susan Cooper’s book series. Feature project is set up with Marc Platt.
Story centers on a boy whose life is turned upside down when he learns he’s the last of a group of immortal warriors who dedicate their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark.
Hodge has been a longtime collaborator of director Danny Boyle, beginning with 1995’s “Shallow Grave” and continuing with “Trainspotting,” “A Life Less Ordinary” and “The Beach.”
Exec VP of production Alex Schwartz and director of development Evan Turner are overseeing “Dark” for Walden Media; Marc Platt Prods. execs Adam Siegel and Jared LeBoff will be shepherding for the shingle.
First published in 1973, “The Dark Is Rising” is the second in a series of five books that also includes “Over Sea, Under Stone,” “Greenwitch,” “The Grey King” and “Silver on the Tree.”
